First of all, thank you all for your interest in Metareal Stage. We’re really excited to have created a service that resonates with so many people and businesses.
Our primary objective is to provide a great and quality virtual tour platform that's affordable, and we’re working hard to meet the considerable challenge of growing to provide a timely and reliable processing service to everyone who wants it.
As you may already know, over the last few weeks, our average turnaround time for processing tours temporarily increased from the usual 2 working days to as much as 5 working days, and even longer for some larger and more complex tours.
This happened partly because we’ve been growing fast since June, after we came out of Beta and launched Metareal Stage v1.0 at Inman Connect, and also thanks to the surge of new users and new processing requests that followed Ben Claremont’s recent video. Since June, we’ve experienced a roughly 3000% increase in the number of production jobs we handle per month.
We’d been planning for growth, but this has dramatically exceeded even our most optimistic scenarios, and we’ve been forced to accelerate our hiring schedule by roughly 3 months.
Beyond that, government restrictions sometimes forced members of our production team to work from home, where their internet connections aren’t as fast or as stable. This presented further challenges, both because it caused delays in tour-editing, and because it prevented the team from training-up the new editors as quickly as planned.
This, of course, is a major challenge. We’re painfully aware that many of our users build tours for the real estate industry, where properties are often sold in a matter of days, and tours need to be done in a snap.
This situation is being corrected. We’re making good progress at bringing our turnaround time back down to 2 working days, by taking the following steps:
- Increasing the number of editors. Since June, we have already added over 20 new editors to the team, and we’ve a similar number currently in training.
- Working with our experienced editors to streamline training for new editors, and applying stringent quality controls to the larger team’s work product.
- Optimizing Stage’s frontend & backend infrastructure, to make our tools easier and faster to use even for editors with unstable internet connections
With these changes, and with the new trainees, we’re already now at parity with the incoming production volume, and once the current backlog of jobs is completed, we’ll be back to our normal 2-working day production turnaround.
Many of you have been requesting quicker turnaround times. So many, in fact, that I’m delighted to announce that we’ll soon be launching 8-hour and 12-hour turnaround options, which are currently scheduled to launch sometime in November.
In the meantime, we greatly appreciate your patience with us as we experience these growing pains, and we’re grateful for your continued support. Our only job is to create value for your business, and we humbly recognize the trust you place in us by selecting us to do your virtual tour production work.
